Call is Not a One-Time Thing:
Relational Bible Studies for Personal and Small Group Use

by Nancy Boyle

Could it be that in our DNA or deep in our soul is a yearning to find and respond to God? Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? These are universal questions. If we can see our response to these questions as a way of listening for God's call and being in relationship with God, life takes on a different meaning. It is not about striving to keep a list of spiritual laws or bending ourselves around various Bible texts or arguing about doctrine. Instead, Bible study, prayer, listening, journaling and sharing our stories with others become a means of finding the thread of God's call in our lives and the help needed to discover our next step. This relationship becomes a vital, organic part of our inner selves.

Nancy Boyle is a workshop leader, teacher and Christian education consultant living in Columbia, SC. The relational methodology which she utilizes in her bible studies is evident in many aspects of her life.

As past chair of the FAW board of directors, Nancy applied relational skills to business meetings and regular care of the board. Her relational Bible study column in Faith@Work magazine ran for over 20 years. She continues to serve FAW on the Elder Council. Nancy and her husband, Mac, also provide support and leadership for the Southeast FAW Team.

Nancy also cares deeply for the creation God has given us. On Pawleys Island (South Carolina) she is one of the guardians of the sea turtle which lay their eggs on the beach.
